History
The Prototype ST. First flew on June 8th, 1934, Pilot John Fornasero. It was issued ATC # 541 on June 21st, 1934, at Mines Field, Los Angeles, California. The airplane was owned and operated by the Ryan School of Aeronautics on Lindbergh field, San Diego.
It was used for initial design evaluation and flight training of Ryan School students. The prototype was flown one time by Howard Hughes, on November 20th, 1934 for 20 minutes. It was apparently a demonstration flight to consider purchase. It was flown often by T. Claude Ryan.
The aircraft was lost in a crash on December 19th, 1934, The Pilot, Sanford “Junie” Baldwin was killed.
