History

It was sold new through Major Hugh Watson on July 17th, 1936 to William Berri. It was shipped via Freight Car to Berri. Mr Berri used it mainly for pleasure. Sometime later he was injured in a speed boat accident and did not use the airplane for some time.

Eventually the aircraft was put up for sale and purchased by Clifford Poley in about August 1938. He in turn sold it on July 27th, 1940 to J. David Finger of the east Coast Flying School, Floyd Bennet Field, Brooklyn, New York.

This Ryan met its demise when on September 2nd, 1940 it was being ferried from Floyd Bennet Field to Matamoras, Pennsylvania.

The airplane approached the field at Matamoras from the Southwest, and the first landing attempt failed. On the second and final attempt the aircraft struck a low fence at the airfield boundary. The aircraft rolled over two or three times, narrowly missing some parked cars, and coming to rest on its back. Pilot Lew Sokol, 25 and his passenger, (and brother) Sam J. Sokol, 29, were both un injured in the resulting crash. They were both from Brooklyn.

Final disposition unknown.

Papers for SN 123 now belong to Fred Barber, Smithville, MO.
