History
Not much is listed as known about this Ryan except that it was sold new and delivered on November 6th, 1936 to Joe Lewis, owner, operator of Lewis Air Service. The ship was used for rental and instruction to local pilots.
In about September 1938 the aircraft met its fate when Lewis spun and was killed. He was buried at Valhalla Memorial park, just off the end of runway 15 at Hollywood Burbank airport.
His favourite way of ending an aerobatic demonstration was to flip the aircraft into a spin, at 700-800 feet and come out of it with his wheels on the runway. The last time it did not work, Lewis was killed and the Ryan was demolished.
