History

Sold originally on December 5th, 1936 and delivered next day to Intercity Airlines, then operated by well known pilot Robert M. Love. They were a Ryan dealer. The airplane was used for advanced students plus the personal use of Mr. Love and his wife Nancy, also a well known pilot of the era.

One of the first pilots to fly the Ryan at Boston was Miss Moya Mitchell, (now Mrs. A.A. Anonson) She did her first slow roll in it, and won her first spot landing contest in Hyannis Airport on Cape Cod.

Moya was a WASP in WWII, (T-6, B-26, etc)

It was also flown often by John Wells of the American Optical Company. Chief instructor at Intercity at the time was Windsor (Mike) Harlow)

At one time Intercity was looking into the installation of a two way radio (around March 1939) probably because of operating out of Boston’s Logan Airport, one of the first controlled fields at the time.

In late 1939 it was sold to Paul N. Fontaine who in turn sold it to Iowa Airlines in June 1940.

On June 20th, 1940 it was ferried from Woonsocket to Des Moines Iowa, by company pilot Leo P. Brennan, and/or Andy C. Anderson. They owned it up to about July 30th, 1942.

In about 1945 Chester Rians purchased the ST in partnership with William Hembrough. He then sold it to Raymond Zenock. It had a sliding canopy at the time. Rians and Hembrough had purchased it from a mechanics school in Galesburg, Illinois, and rebuilt and overhauled it. The Ryan had a red stripe painted horizontally on the rudder at the time.

(Rians and Hembrough together, also owned Ryan ST-A SN 167)

In 1946 it was owned by J. Currey Flying service. Final disposition unknown could still exist.
