History
It was sold new to O.J.Whitney, a Ryan dealer in New York, and delivered to its new owner, Braman – Johnson on January 7th, 1937 at Roosevelt field.
About June 1938 it was sold to Woody Edmonson at Lynchburg, Virginia who was a well known air show pilot. He formerly used a clip wing Monocoupe, but actually got his start in the air show business and doing aerobatics in this particular ST-A.
Woody learned to fly from his brother in Albany, in 1932, earning a commercial rating. He went on to become manager of the first licensed airport in Virginia, in Lynchburg. He was 20 years old then. In later years he owned and ran a very successful fleet of charter and contract airplanes at Washington national Airport, in D.C and later retired. In 1948 he won the international Aerobatic Championships in Miami, Florida, in the Monocoupe. Also in 1948 he set a new speed record from Havana, Cuba to Washington D.C in a P 51 Mustang.
In June 1940 the Ryan was sold to the St Louis Flying Service and they used it in the CPTP program during WWII.
Then in November 1940 it went to Hass- Hillyard together with NC14911. Sometime around March 1941 it was sold to William G. Walker of the Stinson Flying Company. It was often worked on there by Wally – Timm, Inc. Of Glendale, California.
It was sold in June 1941 to the Webb’s Flying Service, at about the same time they purchased NC17369. (SN 174 Now Owned by Argie Tidmore)
Sometime between April 1942 and June 1945 it made its way to E.C. Martin.
It was registered to Dan Liebee in 1946.
In February 1948 the Herbert Air Service Company of Fullerton, California placed an order with the Ryan company for parts for this aircraft.
Final disposition unknown could still exist.
