History

Sold and delivered via ship on March 19th 1937 to Haller Aviation, East London, South Africa. It was initially shipped to Ewing & McDonald Company, c/o Ross and Hany, New Orleans, Louisiana for shipment overseas. Haller Aviation was subsequently purchased by Southern Aviation in Port Elisabeth, Which then became National Airways Corp in 1964. Presided over by Phil Smulian, founder of the Algoa Flying Club in Port Elizabeth.

The aircraft as registered May 25th, 1937, and assigned to the SAAF as 1446 in 1940. The registration was cancelled July 30th, 1947.

In December 1941 this airplane and all other Ryans owned by Haller Aviation were taken over (due WWII) by the department of Defence, Union of South Africa. SAAF. Serving initially at 2AS, Randfontein, the served only for a short while before becoming instructional airframes at 69AS, AFS Germiston, South Africa, where the aircraft was scrapped. The registration was cancelled July 30th, 1947.
