History

Sold new on June 24th, 1938, crated and shipped to the Government of Guatemala, Guatemala City, Guatemala. Equipped with machine gun mounting brackets and synchronisers.

The ship was found and purchased by Hower Aircraft Company in about 1959 or 1960. It was one of the 6 Guatemalan STM`s owned by the Government. Sam Poole was able to secure all six in exchange for work done on a Cessna type aircraft.

In 1961-62, Ed Ortowski bought up several of the Guatemalan ships, including this one, and started to rebuild it to ATC 681 specs. Ortowwski was able to complete one aircraft from the parts, N17349, SN 195, which is now with the EAA museum, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Ortowski was killed in an unrelated aircraft accident and Mrs. Ortowski sold the airplane to Fred and Pat Spec in the summer of 1967. He began the long restoration process and assigned the N number N17350 which was originally assigned to SN 153.
